Claire Bright​​​​

Senior Business and Human Rights Advisor

Dr Claire Bright is Associate Professor in Private Law as well as the Founding Director of the NOVA Centre on Business, Human Rights and the Environment at NOVA School of Law in Lisbon. She holds a PhD in International Law from the European University Institute, an LL.M in Private International Law and International Commercial Law from La Sorbonne Law School and a Dual Bachelor in French and English Laws from UPEC.


Dr Claire Bright regularly organizes short courses, events and trainings in the fields of Business, Human Rights and the Environment / Responsible Business Conduct, notably in Portugal, the UK, Mozambique, Tunisia and Brazil. Her work to date has resulted in numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications and contributed to shape laws and policies at national and European levels. In addition, she has acted as a consultant and contributed to various expert studies and policy reports for Governments, the UN Development Programme, the ILO, civil society organizations as well as for the European institutions, and notably co-authored the study for the European Commission on due diligence requirements through the supply chains which forms the basis of the recently approved Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive.
